Wait what? I’m about to be a junior!? Ok this hardly even seems possible. I honestly feel like it was just yesterday when I moved into my dorm my freshman year for preseason and my parents pulled out of the parking lot, leaving me up on 4th floor of Richardson hall all by myself. I can just remember thinking to myself “oooo man what am I getting myself into!?” Well, two years have gone by and being a part of the USD women’s soccer program has become a way of life for me and I couldn’t be happier.
My sophomore year is winding down, and not only me but the entire team is really working hard these last couple months to get the most out of school and workouts. I feel like it’s especially hard for all of us to stay on task right now with the weather playing tricks on us, summer just around the corner, and actually having games to finally look forward to. However, if any team can handle it, our girls are the ones to push through! These past couple months of spring season have come and gone way faster than I think anyone expected. Waking up at 6 every morning has become routine for all the girls, and we have even been given the luxury of sleeping till 6:45 on Wednesdays! Today we got to practice out on the turf with our cleats and actual soccer balls, as appose to the indoor shoes and futsal balls we were using on the basketball court. We really got the taste of an actual game setting paying out there and I really think that all this hard work is going to pay off next Saturday when we take on Kansas at Creighton.
Overall the team is doing a really great job on the field and in the class room. We have really been improving our times for our conditioning workouts with Coach Frazier (our strength and conditioning coach) and everyone’s skills on the field have really been improving as well. With almost another year under my belt I can honestly say, “It’s a great day to be a Coyote!”
"You are all Champions in your own way. That doesn't mean you have to be number 1 or be the best. Just do your best. If you aren't first, then make those people ahead of you break records by pushing them with your personal best. Consider for a moment what we achieve from athletics - the sheer fun of competing - the building of a healthy and alert mind and body - stamina, courage, perseverance, dedication, commitment, selflessness and most importantly, the will to excel."
Job well done Yotes.
