Warren Swain enters his third year as the “Voice of the Coyotes” in the fall of 2010, after spending the last 43 years a play-by-play sportscaster. Prior to USD, he worked 27 seasons at Bowl Champions Series (BCS) institutions. Most recently, he was the voice of Ohio University athletics where, in addition to game coverage, he also hosted the “Frank Solich Call-In Show”, “Tim O’Shea Call-In Show” and the daily “Bobcat Minute.”
Prior to calling Bobcat athletics, Swain was the voice of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He called Husker football games from 1996-2002, during which time he announced some historic games in Nebraska history. He called the 1997 Orange Bowl in which the Huskers won the national championship. At NU, he worked seven bowl games, including two Orange Bowls, one Rose Bowl and one Fiesta Bowl.
Swain has also spent time with the Drake Bulldogs, Virginia Cavaliers, Oregon Ducks and Iowa State Cyclones. He has been voted sportscaster of the year in four different states (Iowa, Oregon, Virginia and Nebraska).
Swain is a native of Pisgah, Iowa. He is a graduate of West Harrison High School in Mondamin, Iowa. He attended Drake University in Des Moines and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Along with his USD football duties, Swain does morning updates, Coyote Minutes, and co-hosts the “Sports Buffet” which runs from 3-4 p.m. Monday-Friday on ESPN 99.1 in Sioux Falls.
