Football Recruits
Jake Marousek (Omaha, Neb., Burke HS) won the 200-meter dash at the Nebraska State Track and Field Meet recently. Marousek ran a time of 21.960.
Quintin McMartin (Sioux Falls Washington) finished eighth in the shot put at the South Dakota Class AA State Track Meet last weekend.
Steve Nelson (Springfield, Neb.) was ninth in the shot put at the Nebraska Class B State Track and Field Meet recently.
Michael Burrus (Papillion, Neb.) was fourth in the 100-meter dash at the Nebraska Class A State Track and Field Meet recently. Burrus was also seventh in the 200-meter dash won by Marousek, his future Coyote teammate.
Earv Archambeau (Avon, S.D.) competed in the South Dakota Class B State Track and Field meet in the 400-meter dash.
Track and Field/Cross Country Recruits
Andy Coy (Hill City, S.D.) had an outstanding performance at the Class A state track meet in Spearfish last weekend. Coy was second in the 800 run (1:56.20) and second in the 1,600 (4:24.02).
Casey Shade (Sioux Falls Washington High School) finished second in the 800-meter run at the Class AA state track meet on May 30 in Sturgis, S.D. Shade’s big weekend also included a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash (49.97). Shade helped Washington to a second-place finish in the team standings. Shade was also the MVP of the Dan Lennon Class A held in Vermillion, S.D. in March.
Alix Driscoll (Winner, S.D.) placed second in the 100-meter dash at the South Dakota Class A State Track and Field meet last weekend. Driscoll had a time of 12.78 in the event. Driscoll was also fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.85).
Tessa Dee (Mitchell, S.D.) competed in the triple jump and long jump at the South Dakota Class AA State Track and Field meet last weekend.
Women’s Basketball Recruits
Samantha Mehr (Eastview High School, Apple Valley, Minn.) was one of 39 female student-athletes to receive Athena Awards at a banquet held in April. The award-winners were chosen according to their athletic and academic accomplishments.
Former Coyote athletes
Former USD football player Mark Blackburn is fourth on the Sioux Falls Storm in tackles with 36.5. The Storm are 4-6 on the season and are looking to make a playoff push late in the year.
Three-time Super Bowl Champion Matt Chatham, a former member of The University of South Dakota football team, will be hold the “Soft Bowl II” celebrity softball game on Saturday, June 27 at Lewis & Clark Park in Sioux City, Iowa. The game will include former USD women’s basketball standout Bridget Yoerger, along with a group of celebrity players. Celebrities participating include current NFL players Fred Jackson (Buffalo Bills) and Russ Hochstein (New England Patriots), along with former NFL players Tim Dwight, Joe Andruzzi, LeVar Woods and Zeron Flemister. Advanced tickets are available at Lewis & Clark Park and Siouxland Hy-Vee, or online at www.ronaldhouse-siouxcity.com and www.xsbaseball.com. All proceeds from the event will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Siouxland.
